China has lodged a grievance in opposition to India on the World Commerce Organisation (WTO) over subsidies supplied for electrical autos (EVs) and batteries.
Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal stated the ministry will evaluation the detailed submissions made by China.
Officers confirmed that China has filed related complaints in opposition to Turkiye, Canada, and the European Union (EU) as properly. “They’ve sought consultations with India,” an official stated.
As per WTO procedures, searching for consultations is step one in resolving commerce disputes. If these talks fail to resolve the difficulty, China can request the formation of a dispute panel to rule on the difficulty.
China is India’s second-largest buying and selling associate. Within the final fiscal 12 months, India’s exports to China decreased by 14.5% to $14.25 billion, down from $16.66 billion in 2023–24. Nonetheless, imports rose 11.52% to $113.45 billion from $101.73 billion within the earlier 12 months.
This pushed India’s commerce deficit with China to $99.2 billion within the 2024–25 fiscal 12 months.
