Premier Defence Analysis company DRDO (Defence Analysis and Growth Organisation) has carried out the maiden flight assessments of Built-in Air Defence Weapon System (IADWS) off the coast of Odisha. The flight assessments have been carried out on August 23 at round 12.30 pm. IADWS is a multi-layered air defence system comprising all indigenous Fast Response Floor to Air Missile (QRSAM), Superior Very Brief Vary Air Defence System (VSHORADS) missiles and a high-power laser-based Directed Power Weapon (DEW).
Built-in operation of all of the weapon system elements is managed by a Centralised Command and Management Centre developed by Defence Analysis & Growth Laboratory, which is the nodal laboratory of the programme. VSHORADS and DEW are developed by the Analysis Centre Imarat & Centre for Excessive Power Techniques and Sciences, respectively.
