On seventh August, the Lok Sabha handed the Manipur Items and Providers Tax (Modification) Invoice, 2025. This invoice goals to implement adjustments accredited by the GST Council. The invoice replaces the Manipur GST (Modification) Ordinance, 2025, and was cleared by a voice vote amid uproar within the Home.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, whereas transferring the invoice, acknowledged that the modification is a constitutional requirement. It should be handed instantly. If delayed, the state may face challenges in implementing the Council’s selections. Moreover, it could lose income as it will lack the authority to levy taxes on sure objects.
One key change underneath the invoice is the modification to Part 9 of the Manipur GST Act, 2017. This enables the state to levy GST on un-denatured further impartial alcohol (ENA) or rectified spirit. These are used within the manufacturing of alcoholic liquor for human consumption.
