Personal bus operators in Karnataka’s Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts have urged the state authorities to approve a 15 per cent fare hike throughout all routes, together with nationwide freeway providers, citing rising operational prices as a consequence of a current diesel worth hike.
Addressing the media on Tuesday, Kuilady Suresh Nayak, President of the Personal Bus Operators’ Affiliation, confirmed that the affiliation has submitted a proper request to the State Transport Division looking for fare revision.
“The current diesel worth hike by the state authorities has had a cascading impact on bus operators, significantly personal ones. We’re incurring losses on all routes in each districts,” Nayak said.
The event follows the Karnataka authorities’s determination to extend the gross sales tax on diesel to 21.17 per cent, which got here into impact on April 1. This transfer pushed diesel costs up by Rs 2 per litre, taking the retail worth to Rs 91.02.
Operators argue that and not using a corresponding fare adjustment, continued operations could change into financially unsustainable, doubtlessly affecting public transport providers within the coastal areas.
The Transport Division has but to answer the affiliation’s demand.
