The Taliban authorities in Afghanistan has launched two US residents in a prisoner change for an Afghan jailed in a US jail, it stated Tuesday.
People freed had been Ryan Corbett and William Wallace McKenty in change for Khan Mohammad, an Afghan prisoner, The New York Instances reported.
“Following intensive and productive negotiations between the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan and the USA of America, an settlement was reached facilitating the discharge of an Afghan Mujahid, Khan Mohammad, from a US jail in change for the discharge of American nationals,” the Afghan Overseas Ministry stated on Tuesday in a publish on X.
The outgoing US President Joe Biden secured the discharge of the 2 People by issuing a conditional commutation to Mohammad, the NYT report added.
Mohammad was sentenced to life imprisonment within the US and arrested in Nangarhar almost twenty years in the past, the Taliban’s international ministry stated in its assertion. The US had stated Mohammad was allegedly a senior aide to Al-Qaeda.
