PORT-AU-PRINCE (Reuters) – A second group of 75 Guatemalan troopers arrived within the Haitian capital Port-au-Prince on Saturday to spice up a United Nations-backed mission tasked with restoring order amid chaos wrought by gangs, the mission stated.
One other 75 troopers arrived a day earlier, taking the overall Guatemalan troop numbers to 150. All of the reinforcements come from Guatemala’s navy police unit, Guatemala’s authorities stated in an announcement.
An extra eight troopers from El Salvador additionally arrived on Friday.
