India’s retail inflation eased to three.16% in April 2025 — the bottom since July 2019 — down from 3.34% in March.
The drop was primarily pushed by meals inflation, which fell to 1.78% in April from 2.69% in March — its lowest since October 2021.
Costs of greens, pulses, fruits, cereals, meat and fish, and private care objects noticed noticeable moderation.
Rural inflation dropped to 2.92% in April from 3.25%, whereas rural meals inflation eased to 1.85% from 2.82%. City inflation slipped to three.36% from 3.43%, with city meals inflation falling sharply to 1.64% from 2.48%.
Gas and lightweight inflation rose to 2.92% (from 1.42%), transport and communication inflation elevated to three.73% (from 3.36%), whereas housing, schooling, and well being inflation remained largely regular.
