A fireplace broke out inside a pavilion on the COP30 local weather summit in Belém, Brazil, on Thursday (November 20), triggering panic and forcing delegates to evacuate as smoke stuffed the convention venue, AFP journalists reported.
UN employees and safety personnel rushed in with extinguishers as flames unfold contained in the pavilion hall, with attendees shouting “fireplace!” whereas working for the exits. Firefighters quickly arrived on website as thick smoke billowed each inside and out of doors the constructing.
The incident occurred whereas ministers from around the globe have been engaged in tense negotiations aimed toward breaking an deadlock over fossil gasoline commitments, local weather finance, and rising commerce measures. The convention is scheduled to conclude on Friday after two weeks of talks.
Authorities haven’t but reported accidents or the reason for the hearth.
