The rupee opened stronger towards the US greenback on Monday, gaining 9 paise to 86.91, supported by the sharpest rise in overseas alternate reserves in three years. On Thursday, the rupee had strengthened by 27 paise to shut at 87 per greenback, aided by sturdy macroeconomic indicators and a drop in crude oil costs.
